THE 5 PHASES OF THE CENTER OF HUMAN THOUGHT
(Pharafrased and translated from the Book: Islam Transitif)
PHASE 1: NOMOCENTRIS - Man Fears Nature
In the beginning, man had no one. He was born in the midst of forests, on the edges of mountains, under a sky he could not comprehend. When lightning struck, he prostrated. When the mountain erupted, he fled. When the river flooded, he perceived it as wrath.
In this phase, the center of power is NOMOS, the blind law of nature. Man does not yet think; he merely survives. His life is dictated by nature. He does not ask why; he only fears. This is the most primitive phase, yet the most honest. Man is aware of his own smallness.
PHASE 2: THEOSENTRIS - Man Fears God
Then man began to think. He observed that nature, so perfectly ordered, cannot possibly exist without a Regulator. There is a sun that rises on time, a moon that is never late. There must be an Arranger.
So he lifted his head from the earth to the heavens. The center of power shifted from nature to THEOS, God. Man no longer fears the thunder, but he fears the Owner of the thunder. Law is no longer the law of the jungle, but the law of the heavens, revelation. A king reigns not because he is strong, but because power is entrusted to him by God. This is the most stable phase in human history. Because man has a place to lean on that never dies.
PHASE 3: ANTHROPOSENTRIS - Man Fears Man
But that stability was contested. Man, who had been endowed with intellect by God, began to forget God. He looked in the mirror and said, "Why must I keep submitting? Am I not also great?"
Thus was born ANTHROPOS, man as the center. Man declares: man is the determinant of right and wrong. God may exist, but should not interfere in matters of the state. Religion may exist, but only in the mosque and the church. Its climax is the Industrial Revolution, Democracy, and Human Rights. Nature is destroyed in the name of human development. Divine law is reinterpreted to suit human desire.
In this phase, man appears at his most gallant, but in truth, at his loneliest. Because he has no place to lean on other than himself.
PHASE 4: LOGOSENTRIS - Man Fears His Own Reason and Rhetoric
That gallant man eventually became confused. For every man has a different will. Whose will shall be used?
So man created something higher than himself: LOGOS, that is, reason, science, language, law, discourse, and system.
Since then, what reigns is no longer man himself, but the system man himself created. Man is imprisoned by the words he himself made. He creates the term "development," then he must submit to that development even if his own village is displaced. He creates the term "academic discipline," then he is forbidden to think outside that discipline.
Man still feels in power, while in fact, he has become a slave to the logic and language he himself invented.
All these four have been stated among the Filosophy Scholars.
PHASE 5: DIGITALICENTRIS - Man Fears His Own Algorithm (Our Phase Today), as I termed it in my book Islam Transitif.
If in the four previous phases man could still resist - he could resist nature by taking shelter, resist God by denial, resist man with war, resist reason with faith - then in this fifth phase, man can hardly resist any longer.
Because his enemy is not outside himself, his enemy is in his own grip, in his own pocket, 24 hours attached to his hand.
The center of power in this phase is no longer nature, no longer God, no longer man, nor reason, but the ALGORITHM.
The characteristic of Digitalicentric man is his absolute submission:
1. He no longer seeks truth; he waits to be spoon-fed truth.
Formerly, man sought knowledge in the library. Now, knowledge seeks man through the FYP, through notifications, through trending topics. What goes viral is considered true. The algorithm determines what he is allowed to see and what is forbidden.
2. He can no longer exit.
Try turning off your phone for just one day. We become anxious. We feel left behind by the world. We feel non-existent. Yet 20 years ago we lived without it. We are trapped in a prison we call convenience. We are not bound by iron chains, we are bound by a WiFi signal.
3. He worships his own creation.
Man created the phone, then man prostrates to the phone. Man created the application, then man fears being banned by the application. Man created AI, then man asks AI about God. A total reversal has occurred. The creator submits to his creation. This is the most subtle form of modern shirk.
In the Nomosentris phase, man was enslaved by nature.
In the Digitalicentris phase, man is enslaved by the tool he made to enslave nature.
Therefore, the task of Transitive Islam is to pull back humanity that has already gone too far. To transit from Digitalicentris back to Theosentris. It does not mean we throw away the phone, it does not mean we return to the forest. But we restore the center.
Let technology be in the hand, but let God remain at the center of the heart.
Technology may be digital, but the center of life must remain Theosentris.
